Book The Second Korean War (The Russian Agents Book 1) Review :

Yes, it jumps around a lot but in mostly a good way. Every spot it jumps to has a character you care about or one that you hope gets what is coming to him. This is a well written, Clancy like spy novel done well.It is NOT a military novel. There are some military moments in the book but if you're looking for a truly military focused book, this isn't it. But still with the read if you like modern spy stories based on impending war.
Do not waste your time with this book. The title of the book is misleading. This is not a war story rather a spy thriller if you can call it at that. The author spends too much time on irrelevant information that takes away from the story line and make the book very drawn out and boring. For example, the author spends time on the history of the infestation of jelly fish and the damage they have on small engines or the history of a building which are not important to the story. Then there are the technical issues both with the plot and the weapons used:1. A Virginia class submarine fires an Air-to-air missile from the stern tube…really?2. The North Korean sends their tanks to invade Seoul while in the same time plan to detonate a nuclear bomb under their subway system….huh? Wouldn’t Seoul become a radioactive wasteland after the detonation?3. A submarine spends hours on the surface to send in a SEAL team and wait for their return. Why can’t the submarine submerge and wait? Does the author know anything about submarine warfare?4. Two F-22 shot down two Chinese jets but fly right into the explosion and got damage. How close were they when fired the missiles, 100 ft?5. The author also knows nothing about international travel. One of the subplots was that two defectors were smuggled onto a commercial flight to the US. The Chinese found out about it and set up ambushes at the arriving gate and the luggage pickup posting as departing passengers. However, anyone whose had returned from oversea to the US would know that the arriving passengers, in the US, do not mingle with the departing passengers and instead go via a separate walkway to Immigration and Custom. There’s no way they can be ambush inside Immigration and Custom by departing passengers. There are more of these issues, but you get the idea.
